Traditional Danish lunch. Served with Danish hygge.
Smeared with passion.
Served with the joy of work.
At Restaurant 1899, Danish lunch is our passion. Here you get smørrebrød of the highest quality.
Our bread is fresh and freshly baked from Gilleleje Harbor. The rest of the food is prepared from scratch in our own kitchen, down to the smallest detail.
We always use fresh ingredients and love to explore all that the seasons and nature have to offer.
From seasonal herring, pickled mustard seeds, homemade spiced schnapps and hand-peeled prawns to seasonal mushrooms, sumptuous tartare, exciting Danish cheeses with marinated forest berries and homemade crispbread rounded off with good old-fashioned apple cake.
Donated with additional surcharge.
With smørrebrød comes beer and schnapps. That's why we have good beer on tap and in bottles. Both classic beers and exciting new ones from smaller breweries.
The same goes for the aquavit from Aalborg and the Nordics for our own homemade schnapps.
The wine list offers bubbles, red, white and rosé wines.
Spiced with professional pride
Restaurant 1899 was started by the couple Sinem and Rune Dybvad Demir. They both wanted to combine their passion for good Danish lunch with good working conditions.
Sinem is a trained waiter and has worked as restaurant manager at Mikkeller Færgekroen in Tivoli. And as a waiter at Restaurant Puk and Restaurant Kronborg, among others.
Our chefs and waiters are a wonderful mix of both experience and new talent. They all have a high level of professionalism and what they have in common is a passion for Danish food culture and the good experience that makes 1899 special.
Served at
a bottom of agreement
1899 was the year the Danish labor market was founded. Here, employers and workers sat around the table and agreed on wages and working conditions.
The agreement is called the September Settlement and was the first step towards collective agreements and the Danish model.
Despite this, the working environment in the restaurant industry today is tough, and most people work without collective agreements and rights.
At 1899, we have taken the spoon in the other hand. For us, good working conditions are a recipe for high quality, professional pride and good service. We hope you can taste and experience this.
